Valentine’s Day was low key at our house this year. That is just the way I like it! The girls wore pretty shirts from Tootlebug’s to school — I loved all of the mismatched pink and polka dots. Yummy. Of course it took about ten tries to get a decent photo of the two of them, only I’m not sure I would even call it decent. At least they are both in the frame and nobody is crying. That’s success as far as I’m concerned!
Ella made us this pretty Valentine’s heart at school. Isn’t she doing great with her printing? I love that she throws that extra line in her E — that’s my favorite part. We used it as the centerpiece on our dining room table.
We had this yummy chicken & rice for dinner. Score 100 points for putting V-Day dinner in the crock pot before leaving for work. SD stirred it all day long and it was ready when I walked in the door. It is seriously the easiest (and yummiest) recipe ever. Put 3-4 chicken breasts and 1.5 cans of cream of mushroom soup in your slow cooker on high. About an hour before dinner, whip up a box of wild rice and add it to the mix. Stir it up to shred the chicken and you’re ready to go. This was a web find by Josh last week when we needed something new for dinner. We’ve decided it can be heavy in the rotation for a while. Even the girls love it!
I picked up these four massive cupcakes from the Dreamcakes truck on my lunch break. They are called Chocolate High and boy are they ever. Better be, these bad boys set me back $14.
Then the eating of the cupcakes began. Man, these things were rich. I don’t think anybody finished theirs. I should have gotten two for us to split.
Ella declared the icing too sweet (what the what?!?!) and only ate the bottom half of hers. Sophie plowed right into the icing and giggled between every bite.
Mostly, she just broke it apart, smeared icing around on the table and teased the dog with chocolate. Come to think of it, that is pretty normal for her.
Then there was the aftermath. Empty plates and bowls, half-eaten cupcakes and crumpled yogurt cups. I sat there and soaked it all in… the mess and my happy little family. The three of them had moved on to the computer and were blaring music videos and dancing all over the house. “I got the moves like Jagger” was on repeat for quite some time.
It wasn’t romantic, or extraordinary. It was perfect. Happy Valentine’s Day!
