I know I’ve mentioned it before, but one of the “perks” of Josh’s new job is that he gets to do a fair amount of traveling. And not just to out of the way places like Phoenix or Bridgeport, but fun places like San Diego, Los Angeles and New York City. We’ve talking about me going with him several times over the last year, but it’s been mostly talk. We had planned a trip for Washington DC for the first of next year, but then something else happened.
About six weeks ago, he was scheduled for a trip into NYC for the first week of December and our wheels started turning. While it isn’t like us to spend a lot of money on a big trip with no notice, we couldn’t help but think about spending a week in the city during the Christmas holidays… especially with only one plane ticket to purchase. The stars aligned and we managed to pull off babysitters, a decent flight and lots of fun plans. With only three weeks to go our mini-vacay was booked; we opted to spend four days in the city together as a Happy Birthday and Merry Christmas!
I can honestly say this is one of the best trips I’ve ever taken. It is the first time we’ve been anywhere, just the two of us, since the girls were born and it felt like a second honeymoon. We walked more miles than I care to count, saw things I never thought I would see, ate the BEST cheeseburgers I have ever had and laughed more than I have in a very long time. We didn’t disagree about pretty much anything and it was nice to spend four carefree days in the city. I’ll confess that I didn’t worry about anything while we were gone. I knew the girls were well cared for, the house had some visitors to watch over it and the bills and checkbook could wait patiently at home. Our only agenda was some much needed time with each other and lots of Christmas shopping. We pretty much crossed it all off of our list.
