Thirty-two things I loved about my birthday.
- That at 7:30 on Friday night, I was sitting in a theater with my best friend of 32 years watching a movie made for teenagers.
- That we laughed until we cried and tried hard not to go home when it was over.
- That we talked about all of the “middle-aged” women who were there… only to realize the teenagers were probably saying that same thing about us!
- On our way to Chick-fil-A last night, in the dark, Sophie said “Happy Birthday to Momma”, completely unprompted.
- A late-night texting conversation with Ryan last night re-hashing how much fun we had on Saturday. The second-hardest I’ve laughed in awhile.
- At 12:02 this morning, Sophie cried out and SD grabbed her up and snuggled her in bed with us.
- I got to sleep in this morning. 8 o’clock on a Sunday is heavenly.
- I ate blueberry muffins and an ice cold, canned DP in bed this morning with my three favorite people.
- Ella made me two puppets out of paper lunch sacks and had her daddy help wrap them.
- An early morning text message from a good friend.
- They wore frilly smocked dresses to church this morning and E didn’t complain about looking like a baby.
- Being asked out on a date at church this morning.
- A great day in God’s house; singing “He knows MY name” on my birthday!
- Having Ella count up from 32 to how old we’ll be next and making her stop when she got to 39.
- Seeing friends in the parking lot of the grocery store after church and laughing really hard about getting older.
- A perfect family photo after church.
- Being around the table with my parents, sister & BIL and my sweet family.
- Fried chicken and starches for lunch… not a green veggie in sight.
- Watching Sophie attempt to eat with a spoon by herself and shake her head no when peas & macaroni wound up in her mouth together.
- Ella singing Justin “Beaver” at the dining room table.
- West Elm measuring cups from K, even though she wasn’t supposed to buy me a present.
- Pretty earrings from my parents. The birthday cash is always a plus.
- Sitting at the counter while my mom cleaned up after lunch. I miss those moments being at home.
- Sophie eating Ella’s chapstick.
- My dad falling asleep on the couch after lunch.
- A two and a half hour nap with my hubby this afternoon and two children that managed to sleep even longer than we did.
- A Nana who volunteered to watch the girls during dinner AND for soft, furry Alabama pajamas.
- For bread and goat cheese, caesar salads and sugared pecans on my ice cream.
- Riding in a quiet car with my husband and talking about our day.
- Two new books that are waiting by my bedside.
- The promise of a new show on our DVR at bedtime.
- For a ridiculous number of facebook posts and comments today. That is quite possibly the best part about having an account.
And while we’re at it, why not one to grow on: knowing that two weeks from this very moment, I’ll be on a plane flying home from NYC with my very favorite person.
