Since I’m not doing monthly posts now that Sophie is one, I decided maybe we should do a little update on what’s going on in her world. It would probably make more sense to wait for Friday since she’ll be officially 18 months old, but what’s a few days, right? She was too sweet today and I couldn’t wait to write about her.
First up, stats.
- She weighed right at 21.5 pounds yesterday at the emergency clinic, but I’m not sure how tall she is. We have an 18 month well baby visit next week, so I’ll be interested to see how she measures up.
- I still think of her as tall and skinny, but she is finally filling out. She has a round little belly and long legs. She can wear 12 months tops and dresses, but is in 18 months pants for sure. We have a few things for fall that are 24 months and I was surprised to see how well they fit.
- She is still wearing a size 3 diaper and I doubt we make it to a 4. Ella wore a size 3 until she was potty trained at 2.5 years old and Sophie is significantly smaller than her at this age.
Sophie loves to eat. LOVES. As soon as she is up for the morning, she is reaching for her high-chair. Her favorite snacks are bananas, fruit pouches, applesauce, yogurt and goldfish. She loves her milk, but will occasionally take some water if she’s really thirsty. Juice? You can forget it. She isn’t interested in anything “flavored”. She is by far my best eater. She will try anything once and usually likes it. So far, the only things I can think of snubbed by Sophie are rice, raisins, strawberries and watermelon.
She loves to play with her toys and books. Her favorites right now are a Fisher Price princess castle and a sweet baby doll. She wraps her up in a blanket, feeds her a cup and pushes her around in the stroller. We discovered this week that Sophie likes taking a ride in the stroller herself sometimes!
We’ve also discovered just how tough she is. She was so brave at the doctor yesterday and barely cried when she was hurt. She just wants to get back in the action and is always climbing onto something. I’m kind of surprised we made it to almost 18 months before our first “emergency”!
Her language is vastly improving. She still has a funny voice and pronounces the “eee” sound with an “n” at the end of it, but she asks for things by name, tells us what she wants and can pretty much communicate whenever necessary. I’ve been trying to keep a running list of all that she has been saying and this is the most comprehensive one I can come up with. Hang on, it’s long!

It is unbelievably hard to believe she’s a whole year and a half old! It’s weird to be thinking about “big girls” things in the same thought as Sophie. I don’t want her to be two or to be old enough for Disney World or to be sassy and not want to snuggle her mommy. It is such a fine line between loving her as a baby and daydreaming about the little person she’s becoming. She surprises me and makes me laugh out loud every single day. She has the biggest sense of humor and is ALWAYS into something. She likes to climb, is a daredevil and never slows down. The last 18 months of my life have been THE best. Being a mommy to two little bits is my favorite. They are so happy and so am I.
