If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a hundred times. Birthdays are my love language. No matter the cost or the countless hours spent planning, prepping, and crafting (and not sleeping), there is nothing better than making all of your girl’s dreams come true! It’s been so much fun sharing Ella’s special day and all of the little projects that made her party just perfect. I know you’ve been waiting patiently and what you really want to see are those beautiful party pictures, right? As always, my beautiful sister documented all of the details for us and we couldn’t be happier with how the photographs turned out. We hope you love our DIY Mermaid Birthday Party!
Ella really wanted to “be” a mermaid for this party, so I did everything I could to make that happen. These photo invitations were the first step and they turned out adorable! She was mesmerized by her tail and I can’t tell you the number of requests I’ve gotten to recreate this invitation.
My dad had big plans to build an arbor out at the pool and it just so happens that it made its appearance just in time for our party. We skirted the table with faux grass skirts from the party store and topped it with pastel linens.
One of my favorite details were the glass “bubbles” we suspended above the tables. Leftover glass ornaments from Christmas, along with some clear plastic beads made the table look just perfect! We strung everything with tulle and added a few tissue poms for a little extra drama.
I’ve already shared our mermaid tail tutorial, but how adorable does Ella look wearing it? This was such a last minute idea, but I’m so glad that we managed to whip it up in time. She wore it all day!

Lots of themed snacks and a do it yourself snow cone station were the perfect additions to this pool party. We had “little fishy” goldfish snacks, sushi sandwiches and lots of sea shaped cookies to share.
And the birthday girl? She couldn’t have been happier with all the pretty details.
I held my breath, but our pinata actually worked exactly like it should and the girls were thrilled to find suckers rain down on their toes. It might have taken forever to make, but I love how sweet our big number five looked hanging from the arbor.
