Garan & Nana,
This post is brought to you by these two little monsters. Getting them in the same shot is proving to be more and more difficult each day. Ella squeezes the life out of poor Sophie and she just squirms and worms her way out of big sister’s grip. At this particular moment in time, she really wanted to play Barbies and I really wanted her to take a picture and then go to bed. Those things in combination do not make for a happy photography moment, so it’s a good thing they are really cute kids.
In light of all that’s going on in our beautiful state, it felt kind of silly to spend money on plants or monogrammed coffee mugs or whatever the trendy Mother’s Day gift is this year. I’m finding it hard to shop, even for bare necessities, knowing there are so many people who have so little today. What about the mommies who are waking up today with no gifts, no homes, no babies? What about the little ones who don’t have a nicely wrapped package to deliver? Instead of buying you gifts, we decided to do a little service project and we hope you don’t mind that your Mother’s Day gift is the next 8 photographs. We promise, they are are worth it.
We started out with $89 worth of stuff. I took Ella & Sophie shopping, first to the Dollar Tree and then to Wal-Mart, where we bought all of these things. Ella was very vocal and had strong opinions about all that we were adding to our cart. Sophie just wanted out of the seatbelt, but that’s a story for another day.
First, there were pretty bags, a handful of magazines, a devotion book, word puzzles and a small New Testament Bible.
Then there were baby wipes, hard candies, crackers and gum. Did I forget to mention a super sweet helper?
Next went in fuzzy socks, a notepad and pencil, sunglasses, playing cards and a few packages of tissues.
The last things we added were Ella’s favorites — a small makeup bag, chapstick, deodorant, lipstick, hand lotion, a small compact/brush, headbands and clippies, toothbrushes and toothpaste, manicure sets and a $10 Walmart gift card. We tied the bags closed with pretty tulle ribbon and they were ready for delivery!
This little girl was so happy to help and was really excited about helping the “tornado people” as she calls them. These pretty bags were delivered on Friday and will be handed out to mommies today who might not have anything else besides the contents of these bags. We thought it would be so much fun to give other girls and boys the opportunity to share a gift with their mommies today without the worry of time and expense.
We hope you love these pictures as much as we hope those mommies enjoy these gifts. My little girls put so much love into both!
Happy Mother’s Day, we love you both VERY much!
xoxo,
Kristin, Ella & Sophie
