I forgot to share what my little bitties got for Valentine’s Day. Better late than never, right? It isn’t a huge day around our house, but I do like to help my girls make something special for their friends and I always buy them a sweet little treat to open at breakfast or dinner, depending on when the holiday falls.
This year, SD and I kind of got our wires crossed and he ended up with V-Day plans that didn’t include me. It was kind of funny after I got over having my feelings hurt. From now on I’ll know that when I say “no Valentine’s” to indicate no gifts, it can easily be interpreted as “no Valentines” as in let’s not celebrate at all. They should write a manual on how men and women speak different languages!
Instead, we had yummy crock-pot chicken tacos that I put on that morning before work and SD ran out the door for a basketball game with the boys. Ella was beyond thrilled to rip open the gift she had been staring at for days. She LOVES these sparkle sneakers that I swiped at Target earlier this month. She thinks they are Sketchers {score one for mom} and lovingly refers to them as her “checkers” shoes. I melt
She couldn’t quite figure out why I wouldn’t let her unwrap Sophie’s gift, too and we had to have major conversations about that. We have a birthday party coming up and I can see the conflict now! After a mini pep-talk, Soph had her little gift all to herself and was pretty pleased with her pink and purple purse. Now she can play mommy with the big kids.
And for those of you who might be wondering, SD and I totally got a Valentine’s Day redo on Sunday afternoon when we dropped the girls off with Nana and hit the movie theater for a matinee. We saw Unknown, which was pretty good, and then indulged ourselves with yummy Italian food. I missed my girlies, but it was nice to get out of the house for some adult conversation, even if it never strayed too far from how cute they both are!
