Who would’ve thought we could EVER have a white Christmas in Alabama? I am thirty-one years old and we’ve never even come close. My pastor and I were discussing this past Sunday how completely unfair it is that Sophie managed to pull it off her very first year! Sit back, relax and enjoy a big cup of coffee, because this post is full of photos from our merry, white day.
I woke up bright and early to find that Santa Claus had definitely been by for a visit. I also have it on good authority, that he had a helper run to the gas station in the middle of the night to inflate some Barbie bicycle tires. It seems that Santa forgot they weren’t fully aired when he made his delivery! I had almost an hour to myself to make breakfast, set the cameras up and get Sophie up and changed. When Ella still hadn’t made an appearance, SD & I woke her up. She was so excited in her bedroom and acted like she had completely forgotten Santa’s potential visit. We laughed at how calm and quiet she was when we walked into the living room, though, it was so unlike her. She just smiled and took it all in. When she saw her bike she said, “I don’t think I’m nervous anymore” and climbed right on.
From Santa, Ella got a Barbie bicycle and helmet {along with a tiny bike that is supposed to clip onto the handlebars for your Barbie’s to ride along but refused to work in the wee hours of the morning}, a light-bright, Beauty & the Beast and a new outfit for her Bitty Baby. She also got a stocking full of Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, sparkly flats, hair accessories, a new hat and stickers. From Sophie she got a funny faces game and from us she got a couple of new outfits, her Anywhere Chair and a little surprise we’ll share in another post.
Sophie got a rolling, rocking horse and blocks from Santa, along with a stocking full of sippy cups, bowls and utensils, bath toys and a new piggy hat. Ella got her a vTech sing along barnyard and we got her a few new outfits and her Anywhere Chair.
These two sleepyheads were so much fun on Christmas morning, but boy they needed a mini makeover. I’ll remember next year to make a pitstop by the restroom for a toothbrush and a ponytail! They were a little slow going, but once they realized how many gifts they had to open, they started getting excited and dug in.
While Sophie dove into her presents and wallowed around in the paper, Ella was a little more sophisticated and opened them very carefully, slowly removing the paper from each gift.
Ella finally worked up the nerve to try out her new bike and she was a pro. She wasn’t sure about how it wobbled a bit, but once she realized the training wheels would keep her from tipping over, she happily rode her bike back and forth through the living and dining room. The one downside to a white Christmas is the inability to learn how to ride a bike outside!
The only thing Ella asked for aside from her bike this year were flats. And not the baby kind… she wanted no thick sole and no strap across the top of her foot. Apparently Santa had as hard a time with this request as I did, because these were a size too large, but that hasn’t stopped her from wearing them all over the place!
We had to venture outside to take a look at all the pretty white stuff. To say that Ella was thrilled with the snow is a HUGE understatement. This is the only picture we got of Sophie outside for her first snow, but it was windy and much too cold for her.
This is what our house looked like for the better part of the morning. Girls in chairs, up to their arms in paper and presents. SD opening countless toys, me standing on furniture taking pictures and Beemer trying to find some forgotten chocolate.
By lunch, we were driving in the snow and rain to spend the day with my extended family for Christmas.
Sophie might have slept through the present portion of the afternoon, but Ella was the life of the party. She got a fun puppy bank, Polly Pockets, an Olivia playset, a ladybug game and a shark poncho beach towel. Of course, my witty child began humming the jaws theme music and chomping her teeth at anyone who was near.
We had a wonderful day, ate way too much food, played lots of fun games and snuggled these two girls. Mommy was SO glad she wore leggings because I needed that room to expand! Sophie’s first Christmas was just what we hoped for and we are still trying to recover.
