Ella might talk about the Bible and Jesus more than anyone I know. She asks wonderful questions and wants to know all about heaven and when we’re going to get to go there. I knew that this was the perfect year to begin learning the Christmas story from memory and we’ve been working on it for several weeks. Keep in mind, this is the Ella Dean translation, but it pricks my heart every time I hear her recite it.
“And it came to pass in those days that a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that the whole world should be registered. The census first took place when Quirinius was governing Syria. So everyone went to be registered; everyone to his own city… Now in this same country, there were shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flocks by night. And behold the angel of the LORD stood before them and the glory of the LORD shone all around them and they were greatly afraid. The angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid. I came to bring you good news of great joy that will be for all people. For unto you in born this day in the city of David, a Savior, who is Christ the LORD. And this will be the sign unto you, you will find the baby wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in the manger.’ Then suddenly with the angel appeared a multitude of the heavenly hosts, praising GOD and saying, ‘Glory to God in the highest, peace on earth, good will towards men.”
