Sweet Sophie,
You are quite possibly the cutest little pumpkin that I’ve ever laid eyes on. I am daily impressed with how different you are from your sister, but how utterly amazing you both are. I’m guessing you can tell from the photo that you’re going to be a pumpkin for Halloween; I just couldn’t resist. I bought the cocoon and hat on etsy and it fits you so well. Look at how sweet those little toes are? They come right through the knit and curl around the yarn. I can’t help but smile every time I look at your picture.
You are finally a little roly poly that I can really get my hands on. I’m not quite sure how much you weigh these days, but I’m guessing it can’t me much more than fourteen or fifteen pounds. You can still wear a size two diaper and are squeezing into your three months clothes. You are so long that six months things work length wise, but man are you skinny!
You are sitting up really well on your own these days as long as there is something hard beneath your fanny. Sometimes I put the boppy pillow behind your back, just for peace of mind, but you really can do it yourself. This week in the bathtub I let you sit up beside your big sister. The water made it hard to keep your balance, but you were so excited by your independence! You kicked and splashed and poured cup fulls of water everywhere. I laid you back in my hands to float and you grinned so big at me.
These days you are still eating 5-6 ounces of formula, four times daily. You wake up about 7 o’clock {unless it’s a school day} and take a bottle and a big bowl of cereal and fruit. Playtime follows, but might only last and hour or so before you are yawning and tugging at your ears. That’s how we know you’re sleepy these days… it reminds me so much of your Aunt K when she was a baby. Morning naps usually last an hour and then its up for another bottle and a second wind. You love your swing and play mat, but prefer to play on our bed with lots of toys or to roll around in the floor. You also love to swing and play outside. You take two naps in the afternoon – one really long one and then a short after your afternoon bottle. As much as I hate it, that third nap usually happens right after I pick you up in the afternoons. The evenings are so much fun, though. You wake up with a smile on your face, eat a big bowl of fruit or veggies and we have lots of play time together before bed.
You are doing things this month that I can’t help but classify as my “favorites”. When you see yourself in the mirror, you get so excited. We just randomly take you in the bathroom to see how long it takes you to find the baby. We talk about how that really pretty baby lives in the bathroom and is ALWAYS in our mirror! You also love watching Beemer run around the house. You tug on her ears and touch her nose if she gets close enough and your sweet daddy and I are constantly impressed with how tolerant you are. Sometimes, you let me hold you while you sleep and I like it a lot. I wish we could do it more often, but I know it’s better for you to fall asleep on your own… in your bed.
We have stopped carrying you into our bible study class and worship when we’re at church. As much as I miss you those mornings and hate leaving you in the nursery, I know that they take good care of you and you are so excited to see us when we get there to pick you up. You aren’t reaching for us yet, but I can’t wait until you do. For now, we’ll settle for seeing you kick those legs and pump your arms when you recognize us.
Sophie, I cannot believe we are already half way through your first year. It is hard to believe six months have gone by. It seems like yesterday I was having my toenails painted for your delivery and putting the finishing touches on your nursery. I have really cherished and absorbed every moment these last months with you and it has been the best time of my life watching you and your sister fall in love with each other.
I love you to the moon,
Mommy
