Have I mentioned that I painted our front door?
When Kamin decided several months ago to have her fall/Christmas photography mini-sessions at my house, I knew a little “spring” cleaning was in order. Since Beemer regularly claws the front door when she wants to come inside, I knew we would need a fresh coat of paint. The existing door was a pretty chocolate brown and it looked pretty good with the new roof. I still couldn’t help but dream of a bright door since everything else about our house is neutral.
To say that Josh was disappointed with my selection is putting it mildly. He is thoroughly unimpressed with the orange door and wants me to repaint it. Today. He suggested a bright red, but I feel like everybody has a red door. I’ve suggested lime green and aquamarine, but so far I’ve only gotten eye-rolls. For now, I’m enjoying my orange door and it is helping me usher in fall.
I don’t typically do much decorating for fall, but since my house is so earthy and the living and dining rooms are painted a light golden orange, it doesn’t take much to whip this place into shape. My mom stapled some burlap curtains in place for the weekend photo shoot and I like them so much that I think they’re going to stick around. I’m sure the weather will use and abuse them, but for now, they offer a little shade and a lot of texture. I hung a big, round grapevine wreath on the door and love the contrast with the orange. I just stuck the acorns in to see where I wanted them and they haven’t moved. I was thinking I would wire them on, but so far, so good!
The urns and big pumpkins are Gran’s, but I’m borrowing them temporarily. The were also props from the fall shoot, but haven’t made their way home yet. I’m thinking I should definitely replicate this look. Add a few fat pots of mums and my door would be symmetrically autumn goodness. The goldenrods were gathered on the side of the road and paired with the antique milk can look great with my pumpkins.
I’m altogether thrilled with how the porch turned out, but I can’t lie, I’m ready to decorate for Christmas!
