Y’all don’t laugh, but I thought long and hard about what to wear to the football game this weekend. Girls in the south don’t exactly wear jeans & tees to the game, but since I’m not exactly back in my clothes I really struggled with what to wear. Not to mention, that I could find NO red dresses in this city that covered my bum. What is with wearing shirts for dresses?
I finally got a cute denim dress and found a red necklace, wedges and sweater, but the real stars of the show were the girls. Even though they hung out with Garan while we were in Tuscaloosa, they had to be all dressed up! Ella’s seersucker dress from last year was too short, so she wore it with jeans. We had a super-cute smocked gown that was Ella’s, but since Sophie is a giant it was too short. Mom cut it off and made it a diaper shirt and she wore it with white bloomers. They were stinking adorable!
Me & SD waiting outside the stadium for the players to arrive
Some things that I learned about myself and football games…
- Don’t WALK to the stadium in your cute shoes. Wear flip-flops and change. Otherwise you will get a really nasty blister that bleeds all over the back of your leg and people will not be able to look away. Seriously.
- It’s probably not a great idea to sit next to me while I’m drinking the overly large stadium cup of coke. It’s highly likely that I will spill it everywhere 45 minutes before the game even begins. Luckily, it’s humid in the south and it only took about 12 seconds for the coke to evaporate and our foot room to be dry again.
Alabama warm-ups
We ate lunch in T-town and then walked onto campus. We shopped for the girls some clothes, but decided to let daddy pick them up next weekend instead. We hung outside of the stadium for a while and watched the players and coaches arrive at the stadium before taking our seats.
Pretty much the entire day, SD & I would look at each other and say, “I wish Ella was here!” Y’all, she would have had the best time. She has only been to high school games and she loves it. I can’t wait to introduce her to college football. When Big Al came running on the field and every time the crowds started a new cheer or I shook our shaker, we looked at each other again. We did bring her the shaker and got a cute sticker for my car, which pretty much made her morning.
Sophie’s favorite cheer… B-A-M-A, Roll Tide Roll!
Our only concept of where our tickets would be was the section/row/seat info we had, but that doesn’t tell you all the important things. Luckily, we were in the shade the entire day, we have real seats, we’re on the home-side of the field and best of all — we’re under cover. I have no desire to sit in the rain and watch football and lucky for me, it doesn’t look like I’ll have to. Although we’re pretty high up in the stadium, it makes for a fabulous vantage point and we’re excited about hanging out there every week.
Me & SD in our SEASON seats
I guess I should mention that we won, 48 to 3 and that the game itself was fabulous. We spent most of the evening yelling, cheering, shaking our shaker and jumping up and down. I’ve never been a huge fan until I had little girls who loved cheerleader uniforms and a husband who was in LOVE with Alabama football. Buying season tickets seems to have sealed the deal. I won’t be going back until November, but SD will be cheering for me next week while I watch from home with the girls.
