There is definitely a learning curve with two kids and the bad news is I’m behind it. It is funny how going from no kids to one was an adjustment, but going from one to two is a complete lifestyle change. You are so used to what you can accomplish with just one and it doesn’t dawn on you until it’s too late that you need an extra pair of hands.
I can hardly manage lunch and a bath before I get the girls down for nap. Ella has completely taken over the dog chores, because every time I sit down to nurse, Beemer scratches the front door. I have rarely looked appropriate for company and I’m constantly embarrassed by my state of dress, or lack thereof.
On Thursday, I attempted an outing with both girls by myself. I needed to exchange a baby gift at a local boutique and wanted to drop a few things off to be monogrammed. I wanted to eat a quick lunch after we were ready and be in the car by 11:30. Well, we weren’t ready until just after noon, so we needed to eat while we were out. Ella wanted McDonald’s and a cheeseburger sounded yummy to me, too. I had already ordered our food and we were standing there waiting when I looked down. On my right arm was a heavy diaper bag and a sleeping baby in a car seat. In my left hand was a tiny little princess hand and on the counter was a tray of food and a cup to be filled. Who is supposed to get that to the table for you? I vowed yesterday that we will be eating at restaurants with table service unless we have an adult chaperone!
Despite the learning curve, we are having such a wonderful time. Sophie is such a dream and we all fight over whose turn it is to snuggle. Ella is so good with her and we are enjoying our time at home together. Even though she’s sleeping great, I am exhausted and my house is a wreck. I’m going to try to get us on a schedule starting Monday so that things are a little more organized and the littles know what to expect from our day. My maternity leave is already slipping through my fingers and I want to spend many more days loving my girls.
Here are a few funny pictures from yesterday.
Despite the fact that Sophie was taken via c-section, my bum was so sore from sitting in a hospital bed for three days and it is still uncomfortable to sit for long periods of time to nurse. Nana picked me up a “donut” at the drug store a few days after we came home and Ella thinks it is pretty funny. She sported it as a sombrero last night and begged me to take her picture. Clearly, I have no shame.
Sophie sleeps really good at night, if you keep her awake plenty during the day. Friday was a full day and she spent lots of time snoozing in the car or her stroller. This was one of my late-night attempts to get her to sleep. Although she looks like she’s sleeping in this picture, she was really just playing possum. The good news is, I got most of our laundry folded. She finally fell asleep a little after midnight and with the help of one feeding early this morning, she’s still snoozing away!
