This is how I started my Saturday morning. We had lots of fun things to do this weekend and Ella kept calling it the “best weekend ever.” I knew if we were going to squeeze it all in that we were going to have to get an early start. I was up hard-boiling eggs at 6:30, just praying that Ella would sleep a little longer.
Since we don’t have much counter space, I decided to spread a vinyl tablecloth on the kitchen floor and set everything up there. We donned our pretty pink aprons and everything else we need to dye our eggs. Did I mention Ella confused “dyeing” with “dying” and we had a long conversation about how we were not killing our eggs.
This is how excited she was to be doing it herself for a change!
I showed her how to use a tablespoon to lift the eggs instead of that silly little wire thing that comes with the kit.
We were very careful not to get the colors on our fingers. I was afraid we wouldn’t be able to get it off before church on Sunday.
We even wiped off our spoon in between colors… because mommy is a little OCD and didn’t want any infiltration {laugh now, gran}.
We were looking at each other in the spoons.
She was fascinated with the colors, but we were both a little confused about why they give you a pink cup for orange dye. I’m thinking next year we’ll use clear glasses or jelly jars to make it easier.
While the eggs were still damp, we sprinkled them with clear, glass glitter for a little shine…
and were sure to monogram one for everyone {except Beemer, but we didn’t have enough eggs left at that point}.
She like them so much that she’s going to be sorely disappointed to hear they’re going out with the trash!
