So, I know I’ve told you that we’ve been battling bedtime. It’s my own fault since I sort of spoiled Ella while I was sick and complaining during my first trimester. Right before Christmas we got really determined to break her bad habits before Sophie got here. We thought it would be a piece of cake… especially considering what a great sleeper she had been before.
In the beginning the battle we fought was “going” to sleep. She would kick and scream and give us a litany of excuses about why her room was horrible or she couldn’t sleep. It seemed like once we got her to sleep, however, she slept like a dream. Then we got her falling asleep all on her own again. No kicks, no screams – only sweet prayers, things we were thankful for and goodnight mommy’s.
Over the last ten days or so, we’ve apparently managed to conquer both portions of the evening. Although she still gets up from time to time, and sometimes requests juice or extra hugs or a prayer-time redo, we have made huge progress. Last weekend SD brought her a king sized Reese’s Cup for 6 consecutive nights in her bed. Now were almost up to two weeks and I couldn’t be happier
I decided instead of a daily or weekly reward, to do something that would show her progress. She seems to take real pride in successfully sleeping in her bed, so what better to show off than a sticker chart. She and I made this Wednesday night before bed and hung it on the bookcase in her room. She can’t wait to put another sticker on in the morning!
