This is the face of a VERY happy girl at our local hospital on Monday night. She & Garan met me after work for a spin around the mall, a food-court dinner and sibling class. This photo was right after Ella got her official name tag and just before she asked us to go so she could do the class by herself.
We toured the labor and delivery rooms {this is actually the room I was in while laboring with Ella} and talked all about the baby warmer and the soft baby blankets. We also peeked down the hall and saw the c-section rooms {where we’ll be} and the waiting room where our SD will hold Sophie Kae up for the family to see.
Then we headed upstairs for a peek at the postpartum rooms {that have been COMPLETELY renovated since Ella’s birth} and she was tickled that daddy will be sleeping on this little couch. We were lucky enough that while visiting the nursery window, the blinds were open and we saw two sweet little boys being cared for. Ella thought they were adorable and even asked if they were pretend {since they practiced holding pretend babies before our tour}.
Perhaps the best moments of the class were during the question and answer session. Ella was the youngest and didn’t ask any questions, although she did share her name, age and Sophie’s name. The other children ranged in age from 4 to 7 and one was dressed like a superhero. My favorite questions of the night were “How does the baby get out?”, “What if they’re born with broken legs?” and “How do you tell if they have autism?” The nurse was so flabbergasted that she wasn’t sure how to respond. I’m guessing she usually gets more benign questions than that!
After juice and cookies, each child was called to the front of the room for a Big Sister/Big Brother certificate and a bag full of goodies. They got a hospital coloring book and crayons and doctor’s cap and mask, which was definitely her favorite part. She was the only child who tried her’s on and wore it all the way to the car and most of the way home.
Did I mention she wore it to Target, too? I swear people were staring at us like we had H1N1. It might have been the highlight of the evening.
