Nana & Cookie have been talking to us about the Pensacola Air Show for years. We never really thought it sounded fun, but wanted to take Ella the summer after she was born. She was nine months old and loved not only the beach, but the Blue Angels. We’ve been spending the week after Independence Day in Pensacola ever since.
Although the Angels fly for a little while almost every day, the show is on Saturday afternoon. Ella really wanted her picture made with the planes, so when the stunt planes started flying mid-morning, we took this photo. She is so excited here; I love it.
This photo was taken as the Blue Angels first came into view. They were still very hard to see with the naked eye, but we were watching for them with our binoculars and telephoto lenses. We could tell when they got close enough to see because the crowd starts cheering.
These girls were so much fun. We dressed them up in their patriotic swimsuits for the day. People have their American flags flying and it is a really exciting day. I loved seeing them run around in their red, white and blue. They both loved the beach so much this year and never complained about the sand and salt. They played so hard and wore the adults out!
We rented a house and stayed on a private beach. Thank goodness, because this beach “traffic” is light. On the public beach, the tents and umbrellas are right next to one another and people camp out at first light for a good spot to watch the show.
Both during the dress rehearsal on Friday and the air show on Saturday, this little princess fell asleep. Both days the angels were still whizzing by, scaring us all with their engines. Both days she still had her earplugs in. It was so funny to watch her and bunny sleep soundly with those loud planes flying overhead!
We had an excellent vacation, full of great food, family, friends and fun. We are sad to be back to reality and look forward to next year. Thank you Nana & Cookie for letting us crash your vacation every year.
