As much as I’d like to say my party went off without a hitch, knowing me, you would know I was telling a whopper! We had such a great time of fellowship with our friends and ate WAY TOO MUCH great food prepared by all of them. We had a group of 18, which is a lot of people in my tiny living room. And as much as Josh makes fun of me for the number of photographs I normally take in a day, we were just having too much fun to worry about it. I did snag a few to share, but they certainly don’t show our great crowd or the immense fun we all had.
Here are the retarded things I did that I wish had gone a little better… (nana, prepare yourself for fits of laughter). I made cornbread for the first time (for my dressing) and it turned out pretty good. I cooked it a little long and it didn’t make as much as usual, so even though you aren’t supposed to use the crusts, I crunched ’em up with my food processor and you couldn’t even tell the difference. I was so proud with how quickly I put the dressing together this time with no recipe! It looked a little runnier than usual, so I poured off a little of the broth and popped it in the oven. Later, when K came by to help me out and cook her veggies, I walked her through baking a pie that I make ALL the time. As I was counting off the ingredients, I came to the eggs… oh my goodness EGGS! I didn’t put eggs in the dressing which is why it was so runny. It is obviously too late at this point, it has been in the oven for 45 of its 60 minute cooking time. I wanted to cry. Then as we’re putting the pie in the oven, K says that it looks a little “shaky.” Well, she’s right and too full, too. Do you know why? Because I was so hung up on the 3 eggs from the dressing that I forgot, we put 3 eggs in the pie and it only needed 2 – AAGGHH! The dressing survived and I actually got compliments on it?! Josh, K, Cory & I could definitely tell the difference. The pie was a no-go until about 45 minutes after the party was over… it finally set up. To top the whole evening off, I wrapped individual hand-made ornaments for all of my guests and forgot to tell them to take them. So… if you were at my house last night, I have a really cute Christmas ornament for you! Since I won’t make it to church in the morning, I’ll bring it next week. My hostess skills definitely need a brush up :).
Despite my deficiencies of the day, our party was fabulous. There was never a dull moment or a quiet one. We had more desserts than vegetables and we ate them all! We played a hilarious game of dirty Santa where Jeremy (above) opened a gourd-head Grinch – we couldn’t help but notice the resemblance and snap a pic. I think the last guest left at 10:30 and we fell into bed with happy hearts and a full belly. Thanks to everyone who came and enjoyed, we love you all. Especially the cutie below, our honorary SS member, Lane. He was the best guest of all!
