After renovating the “big girl abode” this weekend, we’ve all been throwing around ideas about how to decorate it for Christmas. As you know, I’m starting the festive decor this week, so I’m racking my brain. We are thinking of doing some kind of sheer/garland/lights over the bed, which in this house is referred to as the “Christmas Spirit” or spirit for short. It has been tradition since we moved into this house to decorate the headboard or above the bed with lights and garland – it is Josh’s favorite decoration! I also wanted to do some wreaths in her windows. K suggested white feather wreaths, which sound lovely. I checked them out at Target today and they cost $29! I needed three, so that was out of the question.
Instead, I headed out to Hobby Lobby for some inspiration. I bought three 10 inch straw wreaths for 1.99 each (the styrofoam ones were more expensive and not the right size), fluffy white feather boas for 6.99 each and a roll of sheer, wired pink ribbon for 2.99. I unpackaged the first wreath, which was a huge mistake. Straw went everywhere!! The second time, I left the plastic packaging on and it worked much better. Using a little hot glue I glued one end of the boa to the wreath and started wrapping. I used more hot glue to secure the end. I was hoping to create one wreath per boa, but came up a little short. It actually took 1.5 boas to cover each wreath, so I’ll have to go back tomorrow for a few more. Once said and done, it should cost about $15 per wreath… 1/2 price!
I still need to put her Christmas tree up (it’s white too and has a soft pink tutu as the tree skirt) and hang the “spirit” above her bed but we’re on our way to White Christmas around here!
